An original position would be something akin to this.
I might say that the Bible is simply a compendium of people’s stories, actual people who lived and experienced God and interacted with him. This collection cannot be viewed as the definitive word about God because that would be an exercise in futility since God cannot be contained within words that fail us. It is God not the Bible, who has authority over everything including us. For such a view I should be apologetic.
Trendy preachers, fashionable theologians and designer writers are popularizing the latter view of scripture. A study of the history of theology suggests that in the next couple of generations, if there is not a course correction, Christians will question the inerrancy of scripture as it pertains to faith as well as to practice. My hope and prayer is that there will be a fresh and authentic commitment by people to an unambiguous affirmation of the trustworthiness of scripture as God’s Word.
