STEVE MARTIN & A SONG FOR ATHEISTS

Let's begin with this. It is not typical of what you can expect. It is however, good fun. God loves fun, don't you think? Yes? No?

This was filmed at the David Letterman show, featuring here, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers.

  1. Yes, yes, yes. Love that song!!! I always think of all the fun God must have had with creation! Think of the varieties of animals....Think of that fish who has an appendage that looks like a fishing rod and lure.....Elephant, giraffe......numbers of tropical fish painted in the most extravagant way....He used colors in creation with wild abandonment!!! Then there is the universe with all its colors and shapes .....then there is the universe seen only through the microscope...no holding back here with shape, color, creativity........Humans in their individuality.....He must have laughed with delight...as all the observers did, too! If He didn't want us to laugh.....would He have made us with that capability? My vote is a resounding....YES. posted by Sylvia Willcox

  2. The song is very funny! It also makes an implied serious statement, I think: How can there be joy or rejoicing in a life that is centered around non-belief in a unifying personal element in the universe?

    1. Ahh, TedH, you have caught the message to which only a believer could be atuned. The piece itself is initially, maybe superficially humorous yet in reality it speaks to a spiritual condition that is hope-less, and there is nothing comedic about that..
