JESUS IS LORD OF CREATION

Paul selected a word that would best refute heresy, so he did not say “protoktizo” which means ‘first created,’ but instead chose “prototokos”, meaning ‘first born.’ Jesus was born but he was exceptional, something like the eldest child being in a position of pre-eminence over his siblings.

WE CAN'T FIND GOD

We cannot find God by searching for him because we don’t know where to look or for what to look, but if God reveals himself to us, then we can know him according to that revelation. Humanity either concludes that God does not exist or it fabricates unverifiable notions about God, that is, unless the real God reveals himself, which is what God has done.

THE INVISIBILITY OF GOD HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR HUMANITY

Jesus is God, and in coming here, he has made God visible to us. The seeming invisibility of God is where agnostic and atheist thinkers make their mistake by equating invisibility with unknowability and from there leaping to God’s non-existence.

I found it disheartening when I visited Israel where Jesus was born two millennia ago, to learn that 50% of the population is secular or irreligious, with 37% agnostic and 15% atheist. God took upon Himself flesh so we could "behold" Him. This was the point of the angels' words to Joseph concerning the upcoming birth of Jesus; "...and they shall call His name Immanuel', which translated means 'God with us" (Matthew 1:23). Secularized Jews don’t believe it, nor do practicing Jews who are still waiting for a Messiah.

Choose your weapon wisely. Truth should be so well enunciated that it exposes spiritual frauds but care must be taken not to destroy the allies.

CAN I PAINT GOD?

I am a painter, and I have imagination, and if I consider painting a picture of God, not as an idol to be worshipped but rather as an artistic illustration to tell a story about God, what can I possibly paint? How can I paint God? God is not observable. God is unseen. He’s invisible. I have nothing upon which to base a rendering.

OWNERSHIP - WE ARE THE CHURCH

I was a church pastor for over forty years. I have been retired for five years. I am wearing a new pair of glasses.

This past Sunday our pastor told us that we are not merely doing church. We are the church. We are a people group within the larger Church of Christ. Inherent in that statement and the theology of church to which it speaks, is the idea that being church concerns relationships, understanding, mutually concerned, selfless, altruistic and well intentioned relationships.
