DON’T LET YOUR IMPATIENCE WITH CHURCH CHANGE YOUR THEOLOGY

Are you a person who has for whatever reasons, developed a kingdom outlook rather than an insular local church mentality? Then I am cautioning you not to take a step too far, by which I mean, do not dismiss the local church. Don’t bail on her. Do you think that many local churches with which you are familiar work at a snail’s pace to plan and make decisions? Are congregations, pastors maybe, comfortable with the way things are, that they don’t want to make changes? They don’t really want to make room for others? It’s entirely true that local church leaders often feel vulnerable when change is being advocated by influential leaders who write books, speak at conferences, and load the internet. You may have become one of the growing corpus of impatient churchgoers who tend to slip into independence from the local body, but worse, begin to read scripture in ways that justify bypassing the local church. Please don’t do that, unless it becomes absolutely necessary. That is, if church leaders became entirely insular, inward-looking.
