WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT GOD

When considering this statement, ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God,’ we must begin with God. The Bible reveals and any systematic theology itemizes all of the attributes of God. God’s attributes are not those features that we ascribe to him, but rather what he has revealed about himself. Among the things he has spoken about himself are such things as: ‘God has always existed, having no beginning or end and experiencing no succession of moments of time. He has no shape or size and is present in all places. God is not made of matter and cannot be perceived by bodily senses. God is self-existent and self-sufficient and has no need of humans or any of the rest of creation. He possesses all desirable qualities and he is fully satisfied in himself. He is the final standard of all that is good. He is the true God and his knowledge and words are true and the final standard of truth. He cannot change in his perfections or purposes or promises. God does whatever he pleases. God is able to do all that his holy will chooses. God always chooses the best goals and the best means to those goals. God intensely hates sin.‘
